The featured Artist of the Month for February 2004 is Claudia Bertram of Germany !

How and when did you get started in making teddy bears?
I got started in making teddy bears 10 years ago. In this month, March 2003, we celebrate 10th anniversary! 10 years ago I had a hobby-shop, were I sold Tinkering need, also material to make teddy bears. When I finished my first teddy, I was infected! Only short time later I began to create my own design, and since this time I can't stop creating new Knuffelbears.

Where do you get your inspirations for your teddy bears?
It's different, sometimes during work in office, I always have paper there to write my ideas down. I can't describe exactly, when I get new inspirations, sometimes in my car while driving around, while surfing in internet, while looking at photos, but the first idea for my knuffels came from my little dog.

Please describe your bears to us.
My Bears are mostly between 6" and 10" and made with the finest German mohair, completely hand made, full jointing, German black glass eyes and sometimes suede paw pads.

How long does it take you to make a bear?
It takes between 2 and 4 days to finish a knuffelbear. Because I also have a "normal job" I have to sew in the evenings. When I have free time, it takes one day to finish a new knuffel.

Do you do shows? yes If so, which ones?
Because of my "normal job" I can't do shows very often, 1 or 2 during the year, but only small shows near our home. I hope to get more time soon to do bigger shows. Now I promote my bears during my homepage and sometimes with Advertisements in Teddy-Magazines.

Do your bears possess any unique features?
I think their noses and their smile will be unique feature of my Knuffelbears.

What is your biggest reward for making teddy bears?
The biggest reward for making Teddy Bears is to see the smile on the peoples face when they look at my bears. Also it is great to find nice people and get new friends from all over the world.

Do you have any feedback to give to other artists?
Carry through with your ideas and don't get confused, just do your work with your heart!

A Teddy Bear is a real friend for the whole life and he shall make people smile!
